Vadoma tribe...

The Vadoma people, also known as the Bantwana tribe, which means children/descendants, are a tribe living in the north of Zimbabwe, primarily in the Urungwe and Sipolilo districts on the Zambezi river valley.

There are many in their community, who can't wear shoes due to the shape of their feet. They only have two big toes on each foot.
They don't have middle toes and the two outer ones are turned in. They still can walk but with some difficulty according to the shape, running is also difficult to them. It is said this condition helps them while climbing trees, though. The elders of the Vadoma people claim that their remote ancestors were bird like beings who came from the stars and mixed their DNA with early earth women to produce offspring. The elders state that their ancient ancestors came from the star systems of Sirius and first established colonies on a planet within our solar system that they refer to as Liitolafisi.

A substantial minority of vaDoma has a condition known as ectrodactyly in which the middle three toes are absent and the two outer ones are turned in, resulting in the tribe being known as the "two-toed" or "ostrich-footed" tribe. This is an autosomal dominant condition resulting from a single mutation on chromosome number 7. It is reported that those with the condition are not handicapped and well-integrated into the tribe. While possibly an aid in tree climbing, the condition prevails because of a small genetic pool among the vaDoma and is propagated by the tribal law that forbids members to marry outside the group.

Due to the vaDoma tribe's isolation, they have developed and maintained ectrodactyly, and their comparatively small gene pool has resulted in the condition being much more frequent than elsewhere. Moral police calls for the arrest and counseling of gay lions spotted in Kenya

Dr Ezekiel Mutua, who is responsible for TV and film censorship in Kenya, has blamed gay men for the actions of two lions recent photgraphed getting intimate in Kenya's Masai Mara.

The two male lions were seen engaging in a love-making session that lasted for at least a minute. Mutua saw the photo and said gay men who visit the national park are responsible for influencing the animals' behaviour. .

He also called for the two lions in question to be caught and kept in isolation until scientists can "determine how they acquired homosexual behaviour". .

Homosexuality among certain animals, including lions, has been observed for decades and is believed to be a natural occurence, but Dr Mutua is convinced that the only way the lions learnt that is either by seeing gay men having sex in front of them, or the lions have been possessed by demons. .

"These animals need counseling, because probably they have been influenced by gays who have gone to the national parks and behaved badly," Dr Mutua told Nairobi News. .

"They must have copied it from somewhere or it is demonic. Because these animals do not watch movies." The images of the lions getting intimate were taken by London-based photographer Paul Goldstein during a trip to the Masai Mara. .

The lions had walked into some bushes to get some privacy and that was when Goldstein saw them. He said he first observed the two lions standing side-by-side, before one lay down and was gently mounted by the other. .

Mr Goldstein says: "When lions mate it normally last a few seconds, these two were at it for over a minute and the obvious affection afterwards was very evident, as opposed to the violent withdrawal when male and female mate. .

Even as he dismounted he did not back off as is normal after mating, he crept round to the other male's muzzle, for a nuzzle and threw a conspiratorial wink his way." .

Lions are not the only animal species where homosexual relations exits. Biologists have recorded same-sex sexual activity in more than 450 species including flamingos, bison, beetles and warthogs.

Ghanaian boxer, Braimah Kamoko, also known as Bukom Banku has said he regrets bleaching, according to a report by AdomNews.

The boxer who had been flaunting his heavily bleached skin some months back had admitted that he was bleaching to become Ghana’s ambassador to Germany.
“I am bleaching myself for German people to know that German peo­ple and Bukom Banku are one…. So if you see me now, you will observe that I am from Germany. I want Ghanaians to know that I am a German now,” he said.

But, after going at it for months now, he had now advised people not to bleach because of the adverse consequences.
Banku gave the advice while chatting with Bola Ray on Starr Chat on Wednesday, October 25. Banku said he was inspired by the fairer skin of musicians such as Michael Jackson and Daddy Lumba, but has now realized bleaching is not a good thing and regrets it.

“I stopped bleaching long ago. You know Daddy Lumba and Michael Jackson were looking nice and I admired them so I also started bleaching and people started praising me…they called me ‘Banku Fresh’ and the likes and I was happy but after I stopped bleaching the name changed to ‘Banku black, banku dirty’.

I now fear Ghanaians because the same people who will praise you are the same people who will turn around and insult you. I want to tell Ghanaians that bleaching is not good even if you give me $10,000.000 million, I won’t bleach,” Bukom told Bola Ray.

Dr. Ochuko Erikainure, a Senior Research Officer at the Federal Institute of Industrial Research, Oshodi, Lagos State, has warned that Okra also called Okro, though very nutritious, can lead to infertility in men of reproductive age.

Erukainure, also a nutritionist and biochemist, added that the vegetable also has some form of effect on sex.

He said: “Okra is a hardy plant that can grow even with less water and in hot conditions. It has a unique substance called Gossypol.

“Gossypol inhibits sperm production and motility by blocking several enzymes that are highly important in energy metabolism in sperm and sperm producing cells.

“Okra seeds are very rich in toxic pigment called Gossypol, which promote infertility in men by arresting sperm production (spermatogenesis) even at lower dose.

“Gossypols are oil soluble and natural polyphenol secreted by plants as a defence against predators.”

The senior researcher, who said in some countries, okra seeds were used as natural contraceptive for men, also listed its health benefits.

He said: “Due to proapoptotic (killing of cells) activities in okra seeds, gossypol is still under investigation as a possible anticancer agent.”

“Okra is very high in dietary fibres, reduces calories intakes into the body, ability to limit nitric oxide build up in the blood and lipid (fat) and reduces the risks of cancers.

“Okra is an African vegetable that has been a staple of African and Indian cuisine for many years and also used for medicinal purposes.

“One hundred grammes of okra have been reported to meet over 20 per cent of the daily values, which the body needs.

“It contains a rare combination of carbohydrates, vegetables, minerals, vitamins and also a potent anti-diabetic source, which can be attributed to its chemical constituents.

“Not less than 10 different vitamins and minerals can be found in okra such as vitamin A, which is great for the skin, vitamin C and E which prevent cell damage in the body.”

A doctor has put out a warning to parents who let their baby sleep on their chest after tragically losing his own son.

Dr Sam Hanke has taken up the cause after noticing a trend of famous dads posting images of themselves with their infant children perched soundly asleep on their chest.

Despite being a cute image, Dr Hanke knows only too well how dangerous it can be.

In 2010 he was lying on the sofa while his baby son Charlie slept on his chest. A few minutes later Dr Hanke himself fell asleep, only to wake up to every parent’s worst nightmare.
‘A couple hours later I woke up and Charlie was gone,’ he told Fatherly.com.

Charlie’s death from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) has spurred Dr Hanke and his wife to launch Charlie’s Kids, a foundation which aims to educate parents on the safest way to let their baby sleep.

The foundation points out that many babies die every year due to sleeping with their parents – usually because the baby falls off the parent’s chest or because the sleeping adult rolls over and suffocates the baby.

Aside from celebrities hoping for a good Instagram picture, many mothers comment that at times the only way to get a baby to sleep is by holding him or her to your chest.

However Charlie’s Kids urges parents to always put babies to sleep in crib, whether they are napping or going to bed, and tells parents not to ‘sleep with your baby on a shared sleep service’.

1. Bananas You can’t go wrong with fruits and vegetables, no matter how healthy you are. But you may not know the reasons why these foods are key for a hearthealthy diet. As it turns out, foods high in potassium help manage high blood pressure because it can minimize the impact sodium has. When you consume lots of potassium, found in many fruits and veggies, your body is able to get rid of more sodium through your urine.

Bananas are one of your best options. Th e AHA says one medium specimen has about 420 milligrams of potassium, which is a signifi cant amount for a relatively small amount of food. Th e daily recommended potassium intake for adults is 4,700 milligrams, so just one fruit will have you well on your way.

2. Whole grains By now, most people know they shouldn’t be eating white bread and that whole-wheat or whole-grain options are better. Registered dietitian Keri Gans says going for whole grains ensures you get all the good stuff — bran, germ, and endosperm.

Refi ned grains, on the other hand, have been stripped of the bran and germ. Luckily, there’s a long list of whole grains to choose from, including quinoa, barley, and brown rice. 3. Low-fat yogurt Unless you also happen to be lactose intolerant, you’re good to go when it comes to dairy products. Some evidence indicates dairy is benefi cial for lowering blood pressure, but you want to make sure you’re choosing the lowfat variety, as we know people with high blood pressure should avoid trans and saturated fats.

Th e Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) Diet, which has been praised for lowering blood pressure, encourages people to incorporate low-fat dairy products into their diets. Th is includes low-fat yogurt and fat-free milk. 4. Fish Everyone needs their protein, but red meat defi nitely isn’t the way to go if you’re trying to control high blood pressure. Because fi sh contains less saturated fat, it’s a good option. Plus, according to the AHA, the omega-3 fatty acids found in fi sh may reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. Th e best options for a heart-healthy diet include halibut, tuna, and salmon. Banana 5. Nuts Nuts contain heart-healthy omega-3 fats, so there’s little argument about their importance in a diet focused on lowering high blood pressure.

Additionally, SFGate says certain nuts could lower cholesterol, which is often a huge off ender among those with high blood pressure. So, whether you prefer pistachios to walnuts, snacking on these staples will help keep your heart healthy. 6. Legumes Legumes aren’t half bad, either. One study examined the role these fi ber-rich foods play in controlling blood pressure among patients with diabetes. In a press release, lead study author Dr. David Jenkins said legumes have a “blood pressure-lowering eff ect in diabetic patients.”

Not to mention, legumes are a great source of protein.


7. Olive oil In addition to being good for those with arthritis, due to its antiinfl ammatory properties, olive oil is loaded with heart-healthy fats. According to Mayo Clinic, the healthy fats found in olive oil are monounsaturated fatty acids. Th ese healthy fats can help lower total cholesterol, along with bad cholesterol. Th e Arthritis Foundation recommends two to three tablespoons daily, and points out that extra-virgin olive oil is a better option, as it isn’t as heavily processed.

8. Spices You know salt can harm cholesterol and blood pressure, so curbing your desire to sprinkle it on everything is a must. Th e AHA recommends a daily limit of 1,500 milligrams for most adults, so it’s time to start swapping salt for healthier alternatives. One way the organization recommends shaking your salt habit is by taking advantage of the wide variety of spices and seasonings available. For example, use basil on fi sh, lamb, and lean ground meats. Use nutmeg on fruits, potatoes, and chicken. Th ere’s a way to make your favorite foods tastier without salt, you just have to do some experimenting.

9. Lean chicken Ditching burgers and steak for good is a tall order for meat lovers. But if you can fi nd ways to swap it for chicken more often than not, you’ll be doing yourself a favor. According to the AHA, chicken has less cholesterol and saturated fat than red meats. Seeing as how cholesterol and saturated fat can raise blood cholesterol and make heart disease worse, this diff erence really does matter. Stick to lean, skinless cuts of chicken.

10. Leafy greens Leafy greens, like spinach and kale, may help reduce blood pressure, thanks to magnesium. Research has found taking 300 milligrams of the mineral a day for one month can elevate blood magnesium levels and reduce blood pressure. Furthermore, a press release on the research reads, “High magnesium levels in the blood were linked to improvements in blood fl ow, another factor associated with lowered blood pressure.” Additional foods that are high in magnesium include whole grains, beans, and nuts

Going back to the Stone Age era? Not exactly! But scientists are beginning to stumble on reasons the first generation of human family lived upwards of 800 years at one stretch.

Eating your meals while sitting on the floor of your home can bring significant health benefits, scientists say. While this tradition is seemingly fading out of the African culture as most people have embraced the table and chair for eating, it is still commonly practiced in Muslim-dominated regions like the Northern parts of Nigeria and the Cameroon. Whether you are sitting down in a family circle on a mat or in front of the television, eating while sitting on the floor can improve your health and wellbeing in the following ways;

It helps you maintain a healthy weight

According to the Sit-Down Diet theory in nutrition, we consume fewer calories and comparatively more nutritious food when we sit and eat than while standing up or walking. On a more specific note, an article from The Health site further suggests that when you sit down on the floor, your brain automatically calms down and this enables you to cognate the amount of food you want to eat. It is worth noting that while we eat, the vagus nerve (the main nerve that transmits signals from the stomach to the brain) sends signals as to whether we are satiated or not to the brain. Scientists suggest that when you sit on the floor, this nerve is able to perform better and transmit signals more efficiently.

It can make your body more flexible

Do you want to have a more flexible body? Then sit on the floor when you eat. Sitting and eating from a plate placed on the floor naturally requires you to bend forward slightly and go back to your starting position to swallow.

According to Alternative Daily, a blog on healthy lifestyle, this constant back-and-forth movement can cause the muscles of your abdomen to get activated and leads to increased secretion of stomach acids, making it easier to digest food. In addition, by sitting on the floor, we strengthen the lumbar region of the body, reducing back pain and discomfort. The hips open, making our pelvis and legs more flexible. Core muscles are strengthened, and the ankles also get gently stretched. Constant bending of the knees, ankles and hip joint helps keep them flexible and free of diseases. And with flexibility comes better lubrication between the joints making it much easier to sit on the floor. This would in turn make everything from walking to dancing easier and more enjoyable.

It naturally improves your posture

A Lagos based nutritionist, Michael Abegunde attributes the poor posture of most city dwellers to a habit of sitting over desks and computers and slumping onto couches and chairs for long periods of time. Taking time to sit on the floor everyday when eating, he notes, helps us build good posture. This activity would help straighten your spine and shoulders to be pushed back and relaxed, which naturally corrects poor posture, responsible for quick fatigue.

It is important that we all cultivate good postures not only to prevent injuries and reduce unnecessary straining of muscles but also to look more presentable. Therefore, let us make it a point to sit down on the floor to eat every now and then.

Boosts blood circulation and a healthy heart

One of digestion’s most important element is a sound blood circulation. When you sit on the floor your heart gets the benefits of circulation as the blood is easily pumped through the heart to all the organs needed for digestion. This is in contrast to the pattern of circulation when you sit on a dining table and chair, wherein the blood flows to the legs as they are lower than the heart. A 400-level student of mass communication at the University of Lagos, Nigeria, Miss Chidinma Njoku, puts her experience this way: “Whenever I want to chill, I summon my friends and we all sit on the floor and eat pop corn while watching the television.” This is often a great time between loved ones and guests as it permits everyone to be thoroughly human, free and natural without inhibition by Western so-called “table manners” or rules of eating.”

It can improve your life span

Last but far from the least, the merits listed above all combine to give us a healthier, longer life span. A study published in the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology found that people who sat on the floor in padmasana and were able to get up without any strain or support were more likely to live longer. This is because being able to get up from that position takes a considerable amount of flexibility and lower body strength. The study found that those who were not able to get up without support were at the risk of being 6.5 times more likely to die in the next six years.

Our ancestors were not fools to sit on the floor while eating and it is not surprising that they lived longer and healthier all their lives. The fact that some cultures around the world have maintained the tradition despite modern eating trends gives empirical evidence that this practice is beneficial to our lives.

Now, would you eat your meals sitting on the bare floor henceforth? Do not sit on foam of any kind. A mat, perhaps, but certainly not a cushion either. The floor, it is proven, offers a healthier, longer and more productive life.

‘Dark chocolate is naturally high in many antioxidants, choose raw for the highest possible levels of naturally occurring nutrients. Chocolate is rich in L-tryptophan, which is a precursor to serotonin.

‘When we have good levels of serotonin we feel happier and this decreases our stress levels.



4. Red wine
In moderation, red wine may increase blood flow, whilst relaxing you and lowering your inhibitions. But only have it in small amounts, as you don’t want to overdo it!



5. Oatmeal
May be good for you by helping to lower stress levels, and this is a roundabout way may increase libido, but aside from keeping you full energy-wise, oatmeal won’t directly increase your libido. Plus the high fiber content can lead to gassy feelings.



6.Energy drinks
These are often full of sugar and nasties such as artificial colours and flavours. They may give you an instant energy lift, which may increase endurance and stamina, but this may be short-lived.

You spent the last nine months streamlining what you eat and drink in order to ensure that what you put in your stomach does not affect your baby’s development. Now that you are nursing your baby, you still have to be careful of what you eat.

It is, therefore, essential that mothers maintain regular meals when breastfeeding to acquire important nutrients and also to increase their breast milk.

Regardless, here are some foods women should avoid while breastfeeding.

1. Fish
You don’t need to abandon fish completely, but you need to be selective about what types of seafood you eat. Some fishes can be high in mercury, which can find its way into your milk supply. So, before you eat any fish especially the packaged ones, ensure it does not have mercury.


2. Alcohol
Alcohol can get into your breast milk and can negatively affect your child. It is advisable to avoid it but if you have to drink, it will take 1-2 hours for it to dissolve. That means you have to wait for that number of hours if you do not want to feed your baby with breast milk mixed with alcohol. Just don’t drink alcohol.


3. Caffeine
For women who love coffee, they have to wait after breastfeeding before they resume drinking it. It’s important to know that caffeine also finds its way into your breast milk. If this is the case, your baby’s body will be unable to process the caffeine as quickly as an adult’s body. You do not want to keep your baby awake.



4. Garlic and ginger
Garlic and ginger can smell in your breastmilk. If you find that your baby is reluctant to nurse, it may be because you have eaten garlic or ginger.


5. Dairy products
Normally, breastfeeding your baby with milk or other dairy products in the early stages of breastfeeding is not encouraged. It can affect the full development of your baby.  So, you should avoid downing milk or any other dairy products.
